Design Centre Scotch & Soda

For ELIO Lighting, we worked on the Design Centre on the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam, a former church with a rich history. The building, home to the design department of Scotch & Soda Amsterdam (Recently acquired by United Legwear & Apparel Co. , required a lighting solution that would respect both the monumental architecture and the practical needs of the space.

Our primary challenge was to develop a modern lighting solution that seamlessly integrated with the historic building. It was crucial that the lighting provided optimal working conditions—ensuring the colors of the fabrics are accurately represented—while also highlighting the clothing racks along the walls. With limited installation options on the upper floor, we had to get creative. Together with ELIO and LENS BV, who expertly engineered and refined the screwless tension wire system, we achieved a solution that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

In the basement, where natural light is scarce, we modernized the uplights to create a more spacious and comfortable environment, while also implementing effective work lighting.
