The Hobbemaplein in The Hague is a crucial junction linking the Schilderswijk and Transvaal neighborhoods with the busy shopping districts of Haagse Markt, Hobbemastraat, and Paul Krugerlaan. To enhance this connection, the municipality of The Hague initiated a design competition for a landmark at Hobbemaplein, involving extensive input from local residents and business owners gathered through workshops and neighborhood sessions. The resulting inspiration book outlined the community's vision for a unifying piece of art at this important location.

For ipvDelft and under the guidance of Rob Kruizinga, we developed a test model to evaluate different lighting setups for the proposed artwork. The design featured a snake-shaped, dark red frame structure with interior lighting. Our wooden model allowed for easy switching between three different covering plates, each with varying levels of transparency and patterns, as well as the option to remove an internal partition to observe its effect. This model provided a practical way to assess the visual impact and effectiveness of the lighting solutions on-site with the artwork's designers. Unfortunately, despite our thorough testing and demonstration of the lighting concept, the project did not proceed due to budget constraints. However, our model played a crucial role in showcasing the potential of the proposed landmark.
