Role

Lead Lighting Designer

For the WWS student complex in Rotterdam, we crafted a comprehensive lighting design that emphasizes functionality, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal. Collaborating with Leyten, the developer, we focused on creating a lighting scheme that minimizes light pollution by directing light downwards. This approach not only enhances the safety and attractiveness of the environment but also ensures an energy-efficient solution that aligns with modern urban living standards. Special attention was given to the plinth, integrating lighting that fosters a secure and inviting atmosphere for both residents and visitors, particularly highlighting the vibrant mix of student studios and hospitality venues.

Our design also accentuates the architectural and artistic elements of the complex. The artworks under the overhangs and the relief wall between the buildings are illuminated to stand out during the evening, creating visual interest and enhancing the overall ambiance. This thoughtful illumination not only beautifies the space but also underscores the detailed craftsmanship of the complex. By combining these lighting strategies with the sustainable features of the building, such as the 79 solar panels and green rooftop terraces, our design contributes to a lively, safe, and environmentally conscious urban space that benefits both the residents and the broader community.
